Mum of six spends £31,000 in a day after charity shop payed £90,000 into her account mistakenly instead of £9.
A mum of six spends up-to £31,000 in a day after after a charity shop mistakenly paid more than £90,000 into her bank account.
The money intended to be sent to her when she asked for a refund was just £9.
It was reported that, When she realized the amount of money that has been transferred to her account, instead of notifying the Mencap staff of the error which had occurred in the amount of fund transferred to her account, she quickly transferred the funds to her friends and families in order to safe keep the money.
Later on, when the Charity shop had realized their mistake, they recouped two-thirds of the £90,047–partly by freezing her account–but £31,000 still remains unaccounted for.
In response to the mistake of the staff, the shop dismissed two of it staff over the blunder at the shop in Openshaw, Manchester and is expected to be liable as the loss was caused by a human error.
Comfort Konado, who is the perpetrator has been drawn to court, Konado will face a proceed of Crime hearing where an attempt will be made to retrieve the remaining part of the money.
It is reported that the £31,000 represents 18 months profit for the shop.
Max Saffman, who is her defending lawyer said, Konado sent some of the cash to her homeland, Ghana.
He told Manchester Crown court,
“Until this windfall she was leading a very, very modest lifestyle and she is a hard-working lady. temptation got the best of her.
The sentencing jugde, Nicholas Dean QC, said,
“She must have realised this was an error. This was a serious amount of money and a serious offence”.
Konada has been sentenced to 15 months in jail, suspended for two years.
What the money want spent on is not yet known.
