
Prime Minister Of Japan Shinzo Abe resigns citing health issues amid report of vomiting blood.
The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinze Abe announced that he has decided to resign because of severe illness,confirming the speculation that he had been paying vists to the hospital just a few days after breaking the country's record of being the longest serving leader.
Abe announced in a news conference in Tokyo that he has been struggling with his health since mid July and that he was ready to end his leadership of the world third largest economy, as soon as his political party chooses a successor that will replace him.
Abe Said,
“My poor health should not lead to wrong political, As I'm no longer able to meet the expectation of the mandate of the people of Japan, I have decided that I should not stay in the position as prime minister anymore. So I have decided to step down”.
Speculations of the prime minister's health started after he made several visits to a hospital in the country's capital, Tokyo.
He visited Keio university hospital on Monday and there have been reports of him vomiting blood.
The governing Liberal Democratic Party is expected to appoint an interim who will serve the nation before the party finalises their decision on a candidate who will take the position as the new prime minister after their leadership election.
Some of the leading candidates that is going to replace Abe includes Yoshihide Suga who is the chief cabinet secretary to Abe, Taro Aso who is the serving deputy to Abe, Shigeru Ishiba who is the defence minister to Abe, Fumio Kishida who was a former foreign minister, Taro Kono who is the current foreign minister.
Abe stepped down as prime minister in 2007 after just a year in office due to chronic ulcerative colitis, before getting the condition under control with medication returning to power with landslide election victory in 2020.But he said that the condition has worsened again and required more treatment and monitoring.
Abe has overseen a period of relative stability in a station in a nation previously known for frequent leadership changes and he raised Japan's image on the world stage after a period when few people outside the country could even name it Prime Minister.
He has maintained a strong alliance with the United States,at a time when president Trump took aim at may of America's allies. And he has championed free trade but his leaving office with a widespread sense that he failed to achieve what he set out to do.
