NEMA Edo state government to prepare for flood.
The National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) has announced that the government of Edo state should be prepared for a predicted flood that might be drastic just like the flood that happened in Lagos state.
NEMA persuades the Edo state government to put up structures that will help to reduce the harzadious impact that will be caused by the predicted incoming flood.
This was made known after Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki had a meeting with the VM, Muhammadu Muhammad.
Muhammad said that the NIMET and NIHSA reported that this year's outlook has predicted the highly probable flood-risk areas in Edo state which includes some major local government in the state.
According to his speech,
"The prediction released by NIMET and NIHSA annual flood outlook indicates that 102 Local Government Areas in 28 states fall within highly probable flood risk areas. While 275 Local Government Areas in the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory fall within moderately within probable flood risk areas, while the remaining 397 fall within the low probable flood risk areas.
"This year probable outlook has predicted the highly probable flood-risk areas in Edo state to include Etsako East and Esan South East Local Government, while the low probable flood risk areas are Ikpoba Okha, Oredo, Etsako Central,Esan North East and Ovia North East LGA's.
"Government should carry out enlightenment campaign to the vulnerable communities to undertake mitigation action and prepare to vacate to safe ground, identify safe locations for internally displaced persons camp and distil drainage systems and canal to allow free flow of water".
