Facebook reportedly considering ban of political adverts before election In US.
Following the recent feuds and boycotts that has been hitting Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook Inc because of their refusal to remove president Donald Trump's post that is considered inappropriate and promoting violence in the country(US), although the post was removed by other social media platforms like twitter, Facebook Inc insisted on their refusal to remove the post from the president on their platform. Major advertiser like Microsoft, Ford, Starbucks, Diageo, and others have stopped advertising on facebook Inc due to this reason.
Due to these activities, to avoid further complications and misinformation on political matters facebook is reportedly considering ban of political adverts as reported by Bloomberg.
The ban is still yet to be finalized as it is realised that their ad ban may negatively affect the "get out the vote" campaigns or reduce the way that US candidates can respond to political breaking news.
The democrats in the US have condemmed the act but the republicans,as the digital director for democratic candidate Joe Biden campaign suggested that the potential ad ban was not sufficient solution to misinformation.Nell Thomas who is the chief technology officer for the Democratic national committee commented on the updates saying,"We said seven months ago to @Google and we will say it to @Facebook.
This would be a big change for facebook as they have always supported political adverts and it has amounted to a small percentage of their overall profits.Faceboook has generated $17 billion on just political ads.
As Trump and Joe Biden have spent $29.1 million on ads.
