Mayor Muriel Bowser gave the contract to some painters and immediately the work was started and he also gave the street a new street sign called "black lives matter".

The mayor announced to the reporters outside of the Historical St John Episcopal Church near the Lafayette park that President Donald Trump passed to take his picture during the protest.
She and DC council members were there,She said that

"We simply want to be here together in peace to demonstrate that in America,we can peacefully assemble, you can bring grievances to your government and you can demand change.
"We are here peacefully as Americans on American streets ,in DC street".

Bowser has been on the side of the black community, she didn't agree with the federal government to deploy DC police into the streets of DC.
The DC chapter of Black Lives Matter Global Network disagreed with the motion that the government wanted to put forward.

President Trump didn't go along with her plans and tweeted "The incompetent Mayor of Washington DC ,@mayor Bowser whose budget is out of control and is constantly coming back to us for handouts is now fighting with the national guard who saved her from great embarrassment over the last number of nights,if she doesn't treat these men and women well, then we will bring in a new group of men and women!"

Black Lives Matter Global Network tweeted that the gesture made by the mayor was merely an empty gesture.
