7 Amazon workers dies of covid-19,employees says that they are not told of the deaths in their facilities.
The seventh Amazon worker has died from the covid-19 pandemic in Indiana, Indianapolis as confirmed by the company.
The amazon workers in indianapolis Indiana confesses that they did not know that a worker in the amazon facility had contracted and died of the virus.the employees say they learned about the recent death through social media channels and rumours,added that the management did not inform them of the incident until they were confronted by the workers.
The amazon senior vice president said that the statistics on the numbers was not useful so they declined to announce the number employees that have been diagnosed with the corona virus.
An amazon spokesperson said the company was made aware of the Indiana employee death on the 30th of April and immediately made it known to all the employees.
Amazon workers criticized the company for failing to notify employees when their fellow worker was confirmed.due to the new update ,the company started sending texts to alert and notify it workers when a worker is diagnosed. The messages sent to employees is a total number of all the cases in all amazon facilities.so employees have to figure out the location by themselves.it is believed by the workers in indianapolis that covid-19 cases are now about 12.
Activists and lawmakers have raised concerns about the health and safety of the company's warehouse,earlier this month a senior amazon engineer and vice president resigned over the sacking of workers who called for improvement of warehouse conditions.
During these incidents amazon has improved and implemented on the factories including essential equipments like face masks,temperature checks and medkits.
The company said in statement;
"Our top concern is ensuring the health and safety of our employees,and we expect to invest approximately $4 billion from April to June on covid related initiatives to get products to customers and keep employees safe".
Despite these updates some amazon workers say that the facilities are too crowded to allow proper social distancing among themselves,some says that policy may put them at higher risk,they said amazon reversed it policy it put in place because of covid-19 outbreak,it reversed a policy it implemented on the onset of the pandemic that allows worker to take unlimited time off without pay. The policy allowed workers to go on leave by choice without paychecks if they did not want to face the environmental conditions in the covid-19 outbreak.when the policy was withdrawn the returnee made the warehouses over crowded.
Till now it is still unclear on how many amazon employee have been diagnosed with the corona virus.
