Former United States Ambasador to Nigeria says theres increase of Kidnapping in nigeria during Buhari's government

Former United States of America ambassador to Nigeria says that there has been increased level of kidnapping in nigeria.

He says since the new president assumed office that there have been increased level of kidnapping in the country and low security which has also lead the middle class sending their children abroad away from insecured environment.

He then emphasized on the fact that the president went against the law of the country when he went ahead to make payments and negotiations with kidnappers, which has also lead to increased rate of crime in the country, when kidnaps are made the people of the country therefore pays for the return of their family which also has lead the country to increased rate(which is now a way to make money for the criminal minded ones in the country.

John Campbell said that nigeria was experiencing kidnapping wave.he said in the past kidnapping of people always had political agenda, like in the oil patch, when the militants kidnapped white oil workers in other to get the government attentions on the environmental and health issues that they were facing, and the terrorists group in the northeast that kidnapped groups of young girls, also in other to attain their political agenda,(kidnapping of the chibok girls in the year 2014).

But now the problem is nation wide, rather than a confirmed region,he said.the aim is to collect ransom from individuals rather than the political agenda that it was.kidnapping now includes the social spectrum nobody is exempted.

After the president Muhammadu Buhari in law was rescued in a police shoot out, despite that the rate of kidnapping has increased in his administration.in theory but not in practice, the payment of fund to kidnappers in nigeria is illegal, theres little evidence of how many kidnapping are taking place in the country, indeed the transparency may lead to the popular exaggeration of the numbers.

Nigerian's think that they are in midst of kidnapping wave which has lead to the emigration of middle classed and the wealthy sending their families abroad, because they think the nigeria government doesn't have the power to stop it.

He also talked about the deputy police commissioner,Aba Kyari, also known as the nigeria super Corp, who is the top youngest high ranking police in the country.

But he said that the police force in nigeria was underfunded police men are undertrained, they are always engaged in the abusing of citizens and extra judicial killings.the BBC interviewer raises the consideration with the network of police reforms in network.

He the said that Kyari predictably denies that they take place, asserts that when there are accusations, proper investigations are done.he also talks about the difficulty of law enforcement in nigeria, the lack of investigative capacity and the use of force against the police men.

Then he emphasized on the horrors of kidnapping while recalling the kidnapping by the Boko Haram, the cry for justice kidnapping by the Niger Delta militants, conflicts over land and ethnicity, and religion in the middle belt are stressed of the Nigerian society.

They are relatd to deeper challenges huge increase in population, rapid urbanization and environmental degradation related to climate change. However with specific reference to kidnapping, reform of the police and Security Service need to be pressing need, the former envoy.
And John Campbell also said that nigeria can be assisted through providing of forensics, provision of training personnel, and facilitating exchange.
